Baby's baby, Baby Two -- also Lazlo's 10,000th

| | Comments (6)

Baby's having another baby! If you read this blog, there's a 99% chance that you already knew that. You can blame B2 for the last two months' blogging hiatus; we've been reluctant to put the news on the blog until all our friends, family, and acquaintances had a chance to hear about it through some other means. Also, Baby was pretty sick for the first couple of months.

Baby and I went to Austin for SXSW with a bunch of our friends from LA. My sinuses are still recovering (seriously), and we didn't have nearly enough time to do everything we wanted to do, but it was great. We actually only saw Bodies of Water and Kind Hearts and Coronets play, but we weren't really there for the music anyway. My parents were great hosts to five of our friends and Baby, Wren, and me. Our LA friends were all impressed by the relatively cheap beer (did you know you can get a mega-pint of Lone Star for $2 at Spider House?), and it was great to show them around our town -- although we would have liked to show them more.

The highlights of our trip included: drinking $2 Lone Stars with our friends at Spider House, dinner at Polvo's with everyone I know, and dinner at Melio and Mosesface's house. Who knew quinoa was so tasty? I hope you can buy that stuff in Smithville. Also, seeing my family and enjoying some free quality childcare (which Baby and I certainly didn't take advantage of enough.)

Wren turned two a few weeks ago. She's been talking like crazy since her birthday. Her favorite words right now are bear (pronounced "beer"), water, car, computer (pewter), and pacifier (pyre). She calls Arkay "Chard," and she knows her own name -- well, she refers to herself as "Wen." She's picking words up quickly, and generally being a really great kid. You should acquire a child if you have the means, because they can be really nice to have around. She got a sandbox for her birthday and she loves it (thanks Allie!). It's shaped like a giant crab.

Speaking of Austin, Baby and I found out yesterday that we're not going to be able to enter the first phase of the Mueller housing development. Apparently they want people who are gainfully employed in the same city as the house they're trying to move into. Picky banks! The good news is that we found out we would have been approved otherwise, so we'll try to enter Mueller at a later phase. If you don't know what I'm talking about, it boils down to this: we were trying to get a house in a new development in Austin, but now we're going to have to wait until after we move back to see if we can get in. If anybody knows of a month-to-month lease opening up in Austin around December or January, feel free to let me know.

In other news, I turned 10,000 days old today. In base ten, this is arguably the most numerically significant day of my life. I entered five digits today, and (barring the eschaton or advances in medical science beyond all propriety) I will not see six. It's the beginning of the end for me.

Good advice on acquiring a kid - do you know of any rent-to-own plans?

And congratulations on the news! That's wonderful to hear.

Congrats guys. Even though Little Ava Bean is a handful, I'd be lying if I said I haven't already been planning baby number 2.

actually, she's not saying 'bear' she's just saying 'beer'. i teach her that word every time you guys aren't around, whilst also giving her a taste test to get her acquainted with the various categories thereof. that way i can say, 'wen, get me something dark without too much body' the hope is that, instead of bringing a skinny black neighbor, she'll return with a newcastle.
