Skyrockets in Flight

Here's a picture I snapped of the view from our back porch tonight:

BEHOLD THE MINOTAUR

Baby and I were having a nice dinner with my parents, when Baby exclaimed "OH MY GOD IT'S THAT ROCKET!" and pointed out the window. I almost dropped my brandy snifter and the monocle popped right out of my eye socket.

Don't you just want to squeeze her little cheeks?

The bitch is back! STANDS WITH A FIST was kind enough to drive Ramona (our black lab, for those just joining us) from Austin to Flagstaff. BABY and SANDI drove out to meet her. Ramona is enjoying the SoCal lifestyle. She decided to have her stomach stapled and Baby is now carrying her around in her purse like a certain hotel heiress of ill repute. Which is funny because Ramona is 70 lbs and possibly hyperkinetic.

It's been blisteringly hot; Baby spends the middle of the day in Wren's room (the one with the A/C), with a bag of chocolate chips and a mystery novel. Also, the ants have been blitzing our house. Everywhere you look, there are ant scouts wandering; if we leave even so much as a cheesed knife in the sink, it turns into a scene out of Them! in our kitchen, except with less radioactivity. We have updated our arsenal to include "Earth Solutions" Raid. I'm not sure what the phrase "Earth Solutions" is meant to evoke, but it sounds like a file folder lifted from the Death Star.

I've just finished the class portion of my Pentateuch course. Now I just have to finish a book and write 20 pages for this class, and read two books and write about 16 pages for another class (in addition to listening to several hours of taped lectures). I have until 9/16, so I'll be pretty busy for the next two weeks. The book I'm reading for my 'teuch paper is called Social Justice in Ancient Israel and the author has a disorienting tendency to switch to Hebrew, Greek, Ugaritic, or Akkadian in mid-sentence. Unforunately, I don't start studying Hebrew until next quarter, so the reading is going a bit slow.

So, we've been really busy, but not much is really going on. I've been riding my bike more now that my foot is healed, and I enjoy that. I also get to chase this one tomcat out of our backyard with a spray bottle, and I also enjoy that. Also, Wren is getter cuter daily, and Baby is a great mom -- it's so fun to watch them together. My parents are coming out to visit right after I finish my papers, and we're looking forward to that. Anybody who wants to come visit, just drop us a line. We have a sweltering-hot futon for you to sleep on, if Ramona doesn't mind sharing.
