Lives of the Rich and Famous

The recent (okay... constant) lack of posts might cause our ardent fans to think Lazlo and I lead extremely busy fun-filled lives, wisking around Hollywood from shindig to glamorous shindig. Well folks, I hate to disappoint, but that's not really the case. In fact I haven't even seen one famous person since moving to L.A. We did get invited out to Jackie Trehorn's place last weekend, but that's not really our scene.

In case any of you've been waiting to hear about our encounters with Tinseltown's elite, I've gathered some anecdotes from our friend Lwaxana, who works in an upscale stationary store and has a lot of hip and trendy clients. She deals daily with the idiosycrasies of the stars, and has agreed to let our blog-reading public live vicariously through her:

Keanu Reeves* likes letter press printing but doesn't like to pay for rush orders (and has the Clintons on his Christmas card list). Keanu Reeves is prone to leaving his day-planner lying around, but is very polite to deal with. Keanu Reeves likes British Vogue's typeface for her daughter's birthday invitations, and won't take no for an answer. Keanu Reeves likes cheesecake (and struedel, obviously), and Keanu Reeves from Alias drives a BMW 5-series. Lwaxana also met that girl, Keanu Reeves, from Different Strokes, but I don't really remember the story.

*All the names have been changed (to Keanu Reeves), to protect the innocent celebreties. Ask Lwaxana if you really want to know.

So, I'm writing this paper for the worst class I've ever taken. This is for the "short bus" class -- as one of my classmates put it -- for people who enter seminary on probation because their college grades were ... lacking. Nobody I know is on probation except for myself, due partially to the fact that they upped the GPA requirement the very quarter that I applied. The fact that I'm writing this blog entry right now is almost solely because I have so many other, more productive things I could be doing. My procrastination is your gain.

I'm not sure if he would want me to link this, but anybody who knows Melio is would probably be interested to see what he's been working on lately.

Please forgive my lack of entries to the weblog lately. I've been retardedly busy with school and work. I'm preparing to start working full time (by which I mean that I am now running the computer lab with the help of one other student employee), and I'm working to finish my tard class paper (15 pages, plus a "reflection journal" and "resource guide," making it the most busywork I've probably done since high school) while theoretically studying for my Greek and church history finals. Next quarter, I'm taking Greek and church history again (they're both three-quarter classes, more or less), plus I'm taking on a Bonhoeffer class. He's the pacifistic German theologian who took Luther's admonition to "sin boldly" to heart and made it his responsiblity to try and kill Hitler. I'm looking forward to that class very much. If I start working 40 hours before the quarter starts, though, I'll probably have to drop it. Bummer.

Thanksgiving was not exactly relaxing, but enjoyable nonetheless. I got to see my immediate family for the first time since this summer, which was nice. Sadly, this was the last holiday that I'll ever spend at my grandmother's house (my grandmother whom Colonel Rhombus is "envigorated" by), since she's trying to move into a sort of assisted-living community or something. I've spent almost every Thanksgiving and most Christmases (Christmasses?) since I can remember in Laurel, Mississippi at the house on Old Bay Springs Road. It should be pretty sad to say goodbye to it, but I haven't really had time to mourn it.

On our way to Laurel, Baby and I stopped in Beaumont (Baby's home town) and got to see her mom and sister (Stands With A Fist, in case you've forgotten). We picked up a stray puppy with the intention of finding its owners, but she seems like she's going to become a part of the extended family in some way. Fist may keep her for herself, but Baby's mom has also expressed her characteristically passive-agressive interest in the dog. I'm torn between wanting a family member to keep the dog and hoping that nobody takes her so that Baby and I can't be blamed for any damage that she causes.

Yesterday was my birthday, and I got a bunch of great presents. Baby is obsessed with birthdays and "the birthday experience" and tried to make Dec. 2 the best day of my life. She made me pancakes, pumpkin pie, and a two-layer yellow cake with chocolate icing; macaroni and cheese with ranch-style beans and sausage (my favorite meal -- I should add that she was going to make me pork chops but decided to "tone down" my birthday lunch a little bit when she realized the logistical difficulty of getting warm 'chops to the park for my picnic); and then we went to Manny's Pizzeria with some friends. It was bomb-ass, as the kids say.

Anyway, I'm going to go work on this stupid, stupid paper. I'll emerge from my writing cave on Monday, when I have to take my church history final and go to work and stuff. In the meantime, happy birthday tomorrow to Super Greg L., who I'm certain doesn't read this blog, and Mary S., who may or may not.
