Blogging on the job

| | Comments (4)

Well, today is my first day at work. I'm working 8:30 - 5:30, and I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. My boss is out with a broken foot and I'm the only person at work.

I have a phone on my desk that goes straight to voicemail instead of ringing, and I'm responsible for making sure that anybody who calls gets help. Unfortunately, nobody can tell me how to take my calls off forwarding, so I'm forced to resort to checking my voicemail every 15 minutes or so.

I don't have a key to my office, my paperwork isn't complete (so I can't get an e-mail account), and I don't have any of the important passwords, so I can't work on the server. But I did just help an older woman type a URL into Internet Explorer.

You may have figured it out the phone problem already, but what kind of phone system does your office have? Or just tell me what model of phone you have, that might help.

I ask because that pretty much was my job when I was in charge of the phone systems at my former employer...I might be able to keep your phone from forwarding.

Thanks for the offer, Todd, but I had the switchboard operator fix my phone problem for me. Part of the problem, it turns out, is that my phone had the wrong number written on it.

ha. blogging from work is a path that leads to darkness. blogging from work overcomes you like a drug.... you will be unable to stop... until the end of days.
