Everybody Wang Chung tonight

Kate and I had guests this weekend. Melio drove down from Pittsburgh and Kelly from New York.

Here are the highlights -

- Kate cut my hair (and I get to check hourly for evidence of receding hairline).

- Melio and I sprayed my stencil on a warehouse in downtown Raleigh. (picture next Sunday?) We did it in fluorescent pink and it looks HOTT. It's going to blow some people's minds.

- We toasted the aforementioned Chet (a.k.a. "Barton") boisterously on the occasion of his 30th birthday.

- Melio managed to get into at least twenty theological, religious, or spiritual discussions with various people in two days. I consider him unlucky for that, but I did have the distinction of getting into a rather pointed theological conversation with a very drunk friend, who told me that he believed religion was the most dangerous thing on earth.

- I had a Corona (a beer, not a halo) for the first time last night. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

- Kate and I saw some improv comedy, oddly enough. I thought Kate was going to die, given her intense hatred for watching awkward performances of any kind, but she made it! I'm so proud of her. The group that we were there to see (friends of Kelly from NYC) were actually really good.

- AND, I ate some delicious pork ribs at Mama Dip's in Chapel Hill. Strongly recommended for those with the means.

The gift of the Magus

I received the following e-mail from a good friend in Shermer, Illinois, regarding the birth of my weblog:

---

I am trying to find the words...

Enthusiastic? No, too tame.

Ebullient? No, too fancy.

Wait, I've got it!

Dear Mr. Hollyfeld,

I am entirely lathery to hear of the launch of your online
journal. I firmly believe that the revolution can finally, begin.

Sincerely yours,
Chet Donnelly

So there you have it. The world rejoices.

The buh-log comes to life!

I made a stencil a couple of days ago. Here's a picture of it. Right now, I can't actually afford any spraypaint to tag Durham with my revolutionary message, but once I get some, hoo-boy! When I go to Pittsburgh next, Melio and I are going to tag it downtown. It'll be awesome. Depending on how I feel about this stencil, I want to make a series for Durham. This town has a lot of crappy, crappy graffiti. Not that my stencil is going to exactly change anybody's life. I'm thinking about a multi-color something-or-other. Maybe I'll slap a slogan on my President Faulkner stencil and use it here. Heck, maybe I can put the Endicott stencil over a Faulkner silhouette. Hmm ...

Originally, the Faulkner was for the UT campus, but I got stuck trying to come up with a slogan to go with it. (Larry Faulkner just looks like a random suit, even on his own campus.) I thought I was going to use "FAULKNER KNEW," but then there was a big controversy with UT, the Daily Texan, security cameras, and the open records act, and I decided to go with "LARRY LIKES TO WATCH," but I never got around to it. Maybe I can still use that slogan in Durham. It'll be that much more cryptic. For some reason, Kate suggests "Larry Likes to Pack It," but that's just creepy, seeing as my dad's name is Larry.

So, anyway, that's my first weblog entry. Woo-hoo!

What I learned today:
- Norwegians are SEX PERVERTS.
- There are good reasons to own a TV.
