my new year's eve

| | Comments (4)

a little bit about my day while i have a few moments to blog.

my holidays were merry and bright. i reprised my role as "Buncle Baevfs" for the holidays. lots of driving here and there leaves me a bit tuckered out. for those who are curious what i got, i got some video games, some books and some money. all things i enjoy. maybe most importantly, i learned that my favorite Apples To Apples combination is "Bright" and "Hiroshima 1945".

i only slept 5 hours last night because i stayed up doing a super secret web project that will no doubt make me a goolgillionaire. but i've been under a lot of year end stress. i have 2 big sites to deploy this week (and a 3rd and 4th one on the backburner). i worked a bit on my secret project over the holidays and then started back at work on Wednesday (the day after Xmas) last week. i've hardly rested and feel a exhaustion crash coming on possibly this weekend.

i spent today working hard while my girlfriend, she-who-must-not-be-named, sat in my living room playing Super Mario Bros. 3 on my Wii. those of you with half a brain can see immediately how perfect she-who-must-not-be-named (Jessie) is for me. we drank coffee from my new coffee maker, she did my laundry, i paced around and played a little shamisen while i worked.

we're going out tonight to some parties but i think the both of us could call it a night at 10pm. i wish New Year's was a bit more like Christmas where you rush to go to sleep and then get excited to wake up and it's the new year!!!... but it's not.

i realize as i post this people on other coasts (like the 3rd coast) are much closer to going to bed than i am, and for that i am jealous.

but i leave thee with my new years resolutions:

  1. Kick Soft Drinks - i made the switch from Mountain Dew to Diet Coke last year and this year I hope to make the switch off sodas (substituting with coffee and tea and water). hopefully it will work. i'm feeling optimistic about it.

  2. Lose Weight - This one i'm not so optimistic about, but I think it's possible. Basically, i think i've figured out that I need to increase my activity. "Developer" is an antonym for "Athlete"

  3. Earn Passive Income - there's a lot of talk about this in the freelance world, but yeah, earn money without working. i know, it sounds like a lot of hoopla, but we'll see. google ads, here i come!

  4. Do at least 1 Ruby on Rails Site - i'd like to grow as a developer and what better way than to do something in Ruby 2.0. kick butt.
  5. Play at least one concert - original-ish content. White Otis may have to wait until i can get up the chutzpah to do it.

  6. Be a better boyfriend.

  7. Blog more. - that's right. you heard me. i'm gonna try even though it kills me to look at the computer any more than i have to.

  8. Buy Mario Kart for the Wii. -- i'm not sure this is a resolution so much as something i'm going to be doing this year.

  9. Play my shamisen more! - my mom just sent this out to me and i love it. i'm really excited to play through the old jams. i think i might even busk a little down in Little Tokyo with a guy i found on the myspaces.

so that's me! happy new year's y'all! i'm off to be social. have a good one and i pray that this year will be better than the last. i mean that more for some people than for others.

Akemashite Omedeto! Kotoshi mo yoroshiku!

this week: christmas movie monday!

xmaxmoviemonday1.jpg

this month i've decided to start a new tradition in my life "Christmas Movie Monday" a chance to get together and watch a holiday classic. Last week we (my roommates, girlfriend, and i) watched White Christmas which was solid. though we're only one week into the whole thing, i think it's a smashing success and hope to continue this even for if not one more week, a few years.

so this monday, your invited to christmas movie monday at my house. i think the only people who read this are my roommates and they'll be at the shindig. but regardless. invitation extended.

post this on your myspace or whatever:

merry christmas, clark.

merry christmas blog! yay!

it's been ages. i feel like i need to dust off the screen to post. but that would be ridiculous. because everything i own is immune to dust and termites. but not mice.... if only it were mice.

since last time

if only i could tell you of all the magical exploits i've been on since i've last posted (in October). i will make a slight redaction/rather tragic addendum to my last post: seems cars really do blow up. less than a week after my post Interstate 5 Northbound was shutdown due to an exploding gas tanker. Yikes. Goes to show what I know.

October was a good month. Don't really remember much of what went on except that I didn't celebrate Halloween. I don't really like Halloween. I'm sure i'll deck the kids out in extremely cute Kangaroo costumes and go the whole nine yards when I'm a parent. And even though it makes Charlie Brown and everybody in the Great Pumpkin Patch cry every time I say this: I think it's the lamest holiday of them all.

...Sleepy Hallow? That's what we used to call my bruddah's head! Ha!

I've been working a lot on my CarTalk-style of joking lately. I love this show and I am almost brought to tears laughing every time I hear it. If you've never heard it before and especially if you know nothing about cars (like yours truly) you should tune in or you could subscribe to the podcast.

which reminds me...

My Prestigious Honor

I received the Dad Joke Award from a (closed door) caucus of my friends a few weeks ago. A truly cutting moment because in a neck and neck competition I beat out my roommate lazlo even though he is an ACTUAL DAD to NOT ONE but TWO kids. Seems my onslaught of constant hilarity is the most hammy and most cheezy... does anyone want an omlette!??!? har har har.

But fair is fair because I typically only remember jokes my father has passed on to me.

hassle-free blogging

i get hassled on a pretty consistent basis about how i never update my blog or post anything worth while. while this is true and factual, i'll be honest... it's hard to blog nowadays. i could list off a bunch of excuses, but instead i wrote a poem that was featured on the bbs:
in two-thousand-two i started a blog just before the internet they did hog the internet is now all myspace and digg everyone blogs! from grandmas to kids! now a blog is as cliche as a mustache why must i endure all this backlash? at work, i'm on the internet all the damn time the last thing i want to do is code another line i place my attentions where the computer is not by the way, did i mention my girlfriend is hot? i'd rather spend my evenings trucking around on my bike than spending hours coming up with meaningless insight maybe one day i'll post again soon a blog-a-thon, or a funny cartoon but for now there's too many backstories and time is not cheap i must go now and speak with computers, "bleep bleep bleep".

so that's about it. i don't like looking at the computer any more than the 12 hours a day i tend to end up doing. and, more importantly, i have an excellent girlfriend whom i enjoy spending my time with. if time permits me, i'll post about "Thanksgiving With The Chief which involves a girl, her family, a puzzle and a whole host of zany antics that will make reader fall in love and laugh out loud!" -The Associated Press

"A timeless classic family holiday story that brings warmth into the lives of it's readers. Like Meet The Fockers except with a puzzle!" -New York Times

"Umm... I would describe it...poor, Dave. What a trooper." -My Girlfriend

"The thing I look forward to at any Thanksgiving gathering is the mashed potatoes" -David Rupert, Co-Editor of Wimpkiller Zine

misc. things, then i have to go eat a burrito

my life is coasting along at the moment. work with my company, paravel deisgn is going great. we're doing really well as a company and we're on the cusp of releasing some really cool sites. i'm genuinely excited about work. though sometimes my eyes want to fall out of my head at the end of the day, i like working and i don't hate my job (is this a first in the history of the world?).

my girlfriend is really cute.

while my girlfriend's band (!warning: music!) went away on tour this fall i took that time to go to Austin to go work. Sorry if I didn't get to see you. I was actually out in Marble Falls which though seems like it could be Austin, is far from it. I also spent some time at Girl's Night at my beloved Camp Allen. how I got is a long story and not worth posting here. but boy did we gossip and have plenty of mimosas!!

my house has a bit of a mouse infestation. we hired my girlfriends cat, Moogs (whom we re-named "Mouse Trap") and I had the privilege of seeing him catch a mouse in his mouth. it was rad and powerful - like Animal Planet in HD.

i'm planning on getting cable for the Jumbotron this coming year. i'll be a happy boy and probably stare at the computer less.

i bought Guitar Hero III for the wii. excellent. wii parties continue to be off the hook.

christmas will be in omaha this year. and no i don't plan on posting there.

thus ends the writing of my post. hunger has consumed my flesh and soon it will consume the whole world in a fiery famine! [Brought about by] Gozer the Traveler. He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!

And remember... Don't drive like my brudda. Don't drive like my brudda. And even though Master Wukash numchucks his own face every time he reads this, Howdy Mister is brought to you by Wimpkiller Dot Com.
