long overdue updates

| | Comments (4)

About a month ago I wrote on this ol' blog and told you what was happening in my life. Allow me to update you all with a few tidbits of information.

#1 status of employment

I'm still unemployed. It's been a long hard road and there have been a total of 4 jobs (5 if you count Phoenix) that have just fallen out from under me. I've had various phone interviews and various Instant Messenger interviews. At one point, I had decided that I would work take a job at a Japanese Travel Agency way down in Torrance, CA (it's far). I would have damned myself to spending 1½ hours each way on the road each day in traffic. Something I'm totally (almost morally) opposed to. Mainly because it's not "life" to me, in the loosest sense of the word. Life is so much more rewarding when I'm hanging out with my good friends: The Lock, The Churd, The Rodens (esp. The Wren), The Bodies (esp. The Conk), and The Mennos. But unfortuantely that doesn't pay the bills.

#2 what will pay the bills

To say I'm totally unemployed is not totally honest. My good friend, Trent Walton, and I have launched the new and much improved Paravel Design. I'll be doing freelance for him as we try to bring the company off the ground and make money. Paravel, Take Flight!

A little bit about the site, It's a complete overhaul and a personal accomplishment for myself. It was built from scrath using the CakePHP Framework. The blog and the portfolio are handmade and the site has a whole backend as well which allows you to administrate the Blog and Portfolio. I'm pleased and I've learned a lot. As the days go on and I learn how to code them, I'll roll out new features (like RSS, etc).

Hopefully as time and obsession permit, I'll be upgrading wimpkiller in a similar fashion. Make it a full functioning webzine where the masses can contribute and the grammatically inclined (read: anyone with the surname "Roden") would be able to edit as their time and commitment permit. And maybe Wimpkiller as a community could develop Continuing Serials, Rich-content, and Beauty.

But before that happens, I'll need to pad my pocket a bit and buckle down and make some websites for Trent to add to our already impressive Portfolio.

#3 vegas was nice

The week before my birthday (April 30th), I drove through the desert to meet my Dad in Las Vegas. It was a great time of learning... You gotta know when to hold 'em. Know when to fold 'em. Our game was $5 Single Deck Blackjack. We played hours of cards and stayed pretty even for few days of gambling. I'd like to one day gamble with more money at stake (money I don't intend on keeping). It seems like it would be fun.

#4 puzzle quest is the best game on earth

For my birthday, The Lock and Arkay gave me Puzzle Quest, as recommended by Makkun. It's the awesomest game evAr! It's basically the online game Bejeweledmashed up with an RPG. So you battle Ogres and such, not with sword, but with puzzles. It's extremely addictive and can cure any momentary lull in the day.

#5 complaints complaints complaints

I've run into a few snafus this past few months, and rather than whine about them, I've boiled down those problems into a handful of legitimate complaints which I plan on (but never will end up) blogging about.

Well. I'm going to quit this because again, I've run into the same ol' predicament: I have to pee and I'm at a coffeeshop. So I'll probably end up leaving. I've started developing a reportrapport at my current coffeeshop. People know me and ask if I'm famous. Apparently I look like someone famous.
