sometimes people ask me what i do all day/week and i just look them in the eyes and laugh to their face. my weekday cocktail is a real simple mix of 1 part the bbs, 2 parts digg.com, and 3 parts pure nerd - to be served with a helping of boredom.
let's take yesterday as a sample. since i've got a few projects mounting up against me i had slated Friday as a workday. though the day started fairly early in the morning with one of my websites being hacked. oops. @1130 i started working on various websites. cleaning up a nearly finished one and doing some flash work. it's been so long since i've used flash. @1800 or so, i broke away from my computer for a burrito and to go look for coding books at Half Price Books... no books bought. then after that i went to Epoch (my new favoritest place) @1900 and worked on Ruby on Rails stuff. Then @2330 or so i broke out of my geek trance and went to the bar.
now i'm not that industrious most days. yesterday was an extreme. but this is pretty much things nowadays. computer + me. i came to Austin on Thursday and the constant action has staved off some of my general boredom. but i still managed to geek out for a solid 12 hours yesterday.
but my day wasn't only just geeking out, last night at TBL's birthday a good time was had and we saw two girls grab hair in a bar fight. action. excitement.
fire up the uhaul! i'll post more tomorrow!!!!!
i've been spending a lot of time thinking about what i should post on this damn thing. i'm at a delicate point in life where potential employers are no doubt googling me and finding my frenchfry blog. they will no doubt see my over-punctuation and my lack of capitalization. i even put wimpkiller on an application the other day. it was for a web nrrrd job. i'd be truly excited if my internet hobbying could be turned into some kind of career.
when i say career, i start thinking i have so much more to learn. barf.
so now i'm going with a new policy - No Discretion is Good Discretion - and will post whatever i want, even the most inane stuff, until i'm bored and/or embarrassed by that.
As you've probably noticed (unless you just read the RSS feeds) there have been some mild changes around here. I know, the new blog title is a mouthful. The title comes from Shampoo Planet, a Douglas Coupland novel. I'll let you read it for the reference. I planned to share my thoughts on the book, but it was on a boat. Now that it's back in my possession, perhaps I'll share sometime.
Goodbye Mr.Nippon! Both you and Mr.Corporate have been good friends, and still are, but just as I keep moving forward, so must the blog. But don't worry, this new guy will only be around until I figure out what I'm doing with my life.

My treasures have arrived from The Orient! It's kind of scary to not have your stuff for a month. Scarier than that to me is your stuff is sitting on a boat that is sitting on top of the largest ocean in the world. It's such a relief to have my things again and I don't have to ever say to someone "Oh I have that, but it's on a boat."
But some bad news... there were some casualties on the journey. THE CONTENTS OF THE ONLY BOX THAT I LABELED "FRAGILE" (pictured above) WERE ALL SHATTERED! WTF!! Seriously! This was the only box that i labeled fragile. I even wrote "Breakable" in Japanese - but perhaps in translation it sounded more like "Things you can break!! Have a go at it, mate!!" It's not a big loss, but it is kind of personal. I took pottery lessons in Japan for three years, and absolutely everything I made was shattered into pieces. Sad. Sad. Sad.
My book box also had a blowout, but I don't think I lost anything. And if I did, I will never know.
I've spent most of the day today reorganizing my stuff into 7 boxes. I'll share with you the labels, because I think it's blogworthy.
- Books: Secular
- Books: Religious
- Books: Japandom - all books either in Japanese or related to Japan
- CDs, total legal DVDs, Media
- Photography - i'm so glad my 700 lomos made it
- Geekery
- Japanese Gifts - a box of stuff my friends/co-workers gave me
So that's that. I'm reboxing my life. rather, if i don't keep it in boxes, it will over come my room like the plague. i'm getting a little better at organizing, but i think that it's an innate skill that some people possess more than others. I'll forever be dependent on The Container Store for the rest of my life... Until I design my very own The Man Closet - A Closet For Men.
to anyone who pitied me because in my previous post i said i had no money i apologize, i checked my bank today and i have quite a bit of money. surprise! sorry if i pined for your pity. that said, i don't have a job and money is still falling out of my pockets.
