Oh to be 16 again!

| | Comments (8)

oh boy oh boy. currently i'm staying at my mom's it's the middle of the night and i feel like i'm sixteen again. the other day i woke up around 1:30pm and called the Riceman - due to cellphones, he's quite possibly the only phone number on the planet that i have memorized. i spent the rest of the day playing around on the internets (that i'm stealing from my mom's neighbor). wonderous.

except my computer still has to be umbillically attached to the outlet.

had my mom's casserole. it's maybe my favorite ever.

went to the riceman's (and tammi with an i's) cell group tonight and it was great. kind of reminded me of the ol' thursday night youth group @ st.pete's. Andy was even there, except he looked more handsome with the man-weight he's gained. afterwards we talked of old friends. the riceman and i reminiced on the old thought once again making a paperzine. tammi with an i suggested that we pool our resources together and write a book.

i'd like wimpkiller to still continue to be the hottest domain name on the planet (don't fear BBS), but since blogs are played out now and everyone has one and it's not cool to have one, i think the anticipation of a paperzine would make the world a better place. but that switch will have to wait i suppose. photocopies in japan would kill my wallet. however, B4 is maybe the best zine sized paper in the world.

i had a great time at my dad's the last week. seeing everyone was great. i thought i should mention that. it was great even up until the point a stranger forcefully petitioned my dad for a free ride to the nearest hotel. quite possibly the scariest thing ever. i called him to see if he was dead. he's alive.

i saw my nephew, Luke David. he's a handsome, chubby little guy. i think we got a long. he's a cool customer. he'd get passed around during the family games (we get kind of competitive) and not say a word. he'll be a totally different kid the next time i see him. but thanks to the miracle of webcams, i shouldn't be totally surprised.

i went to the beach on a foggy night in december with a beautiful girl and had a wonderful evening. this, i feel, is worth mentioning.

i spent some of the day yesterday addressing negative feedback on my blog. it all kind of makes me want to dismantle the ol' blog. not because i fear negative feedback or because i truly hold people's freedom of speech higher than my insecurities about writing, but moreso i just wonder if it's worth it to defend myself to people who i don't know. i think it's moreso being misunderstood that kicks me in the gut. (and grammarcops, holster your weapons, i know that "moreso" isn't a real word - i just like how it looks)

swell. goodnight y'all and i hope to see more of you in Austin this weekend.

T minus a few

well, it's about T minus 11 hours till i have to get in the taxi that will take me to the train station -> that will take me to the bus -> that will take me to the airport -> that will take me to detroit -> that will take me to Omaha. cow tipping.

honestly, i should be packing. but instead i'm playing Zelda. i'm doing well. i've beat 2 dungeons. can't find the 3rd or the 4th. and still looking for the old man in the graveyard. but i've got a horrible case of Nintendo thumb. comes with the territory though. i will fight on.

i developed a roll of Lomographics today. not digitized yet. that'll have to wait. it's a pretty good set.

last night my heater ran out of gas. so i turned my electric carpet on high and piled 4 comforters on top of me. i woke up to about 3 or 4 inches of snow. somehow, snow impares peoples ability to drive. i saw a guy with snow-tires (think zamboni) and 4WD, but he couldn't get his little Subaru up past 2mph.

it reminds me of that episode of King of the Hill where it snows in Arlen, and people just go nuts because it's not supposed to snow in Texas. and there's a brief minute when people are in a parking lot sliding around that paints the pictures i want to tell you. have i already told you about this scene before?

well, i've packed up my bags with treasures from the Orient. stuff i've said "how the hell am i going to get this home?" for awhile now. but it's only a small part of the large katamari ball that is in my apartment. i can hardly fit my nunchucks in here any more.

oh. lastly. my damn computer battery blew up again. kaput! it's not working. if i unplug the computer i lose everything. effing ridiculous... i'm angry.

somebody wants a new computer... or one without $200 batteries and the constant whirring/gritting of harddrive.

that's all. i'll get on the plane tomorrow with my friend Eak. we should party it up all the way to Detroit. hope she likes Zelda. Diney, if you read this, i'll miss you, Ranger. sorry i didn't see you. have a great time in New Zealand. i should come visit.

oh and... America, get the moutain dew flowing! papa has been gone awhile. peace.

Go See The Old Man In The Graveyard!

I must confess I bought a Gameboy Micro yesterday. It's cute and will entertain me on my infinity hours of travel this holiday season. I'm well stoked and I bought quite a few games (most of them have "Zelda" in the title) - they kind of make me want to get a Triforce tattoo.

You'll notice I chose the Famicom controller design. As a self-proclaimed Nintendo Fanboy I have fantasized about the Japanese Famicom since the time in 1989 or so when my best friend, Ryan Phillips, went down the street to the Asian kid's house and played a yet-unreleased Super Mario Brothers 3 in Japanese. He came back with tales of mystery and strange characters. Years later, I would go on to study these strange characters...

"Officially" this expenditure all falls under Japanese Study and entertainment budget.
Unofficially though, it falls under irresponsible waste of time and compulsive buying of gadgetry.

But look! I'm already learning important everyday Japanese that will help me in the future (should I ever live in Hyrule):

HAKABANOJIISANNIAE - "Go see the old man in the graveyard!"
OKANEGANAKEREBA YA HA TSUKAENAI - "Without money you can't use the arrows."

Simple everyday Japanese.

But it's incredibly hard to read on most games. It's written all in katakana (the print-like script of japanese) with no Chinese characters, which may sound like a dream but in actuality it's just a stream of seemingly random characters.... likeifIusednoperiodsorpunctuation you'dunderstandwhatI'msaying, butit'dtakeyoualittlewhiletodeciphermymeaning. I liken it to reading roman numerals, I can read them but it takes awhile to figure out the meaning.

Naked Guy, Lance, Graveyard.

I also bought Ghost N' Ghouls, a.k.a. the hardest effing video game ever. I know that everyone has owned it, but i know of no one who beat it. If you, dear reader, beat it and can supply one eye witness, I will kiss you on the mouth. I bought it thinking that now, in my old age I could beat it. I don't know why I should ever feel more confident at videogaming than my 7 year old self. I got stomped before the first mini-boss and it gave me a headache. But I will beat it... oh yes.... I will....

well. this was a nicely themed graveyard post. i'll finish it off by saying i played Resident Evil 4 for the first time at Dan's house, it was radical.

The beauty of this whole adventure is that I don't remember the games at all. I blame my bike accident. Or maybe Jesus. Even Super Mario Bros. is a bit of a mystery to me. It's like I took a trip in the way-back machine and now I get to relearn all my skills, this time in Japanese. Excitement.

Over and out. Krrssshhhhksk

hit it, bing!

I'll be home for Christmas...

Lay it on me Bing. That's right folks, if you haven't heard/inferred I'll be home for Christmas yet again this year. This year is excpected to be most exciting as it's my first time to my nephew Luke. as well as some other exciting developments *wink wink. I'm stoked. I thought about possibly reprising my role at the Ecclesia New Years Party (feat. Pary Dog).

"You should kill you dog. Just slit it's throat."

That night is forever etched in my brain. But being the "exotic" guy from Japan has it's ups and downs.

UPS: i have something interesting to say in any conversation involving food.
DOWNS: i am on vacation and other start working. leaving me to watch their DVDs as they work for Uncle Sam.
UPS: coffeshop time. i can sit anywhere i want for hours.

oooh boy! you thought you couldn't get through the winter without one cliche post about my heater and the sub-zero (celcius) temperatures outside... well think again.

i've started to realize my life is a bit like the TV show LOST at the moment (minus all tropical tendencies). you see, i'm stuck on an island, and about every three hours or so my heater beeps to be attended to. if i don't push the correct button combination or choose to ignore it, then my heater will shut off and i might die.

[creepy horn section sting]

i also pulled out a bullet and at least once a day a water drenched Walt appears whispering in some unintelligble tongues.

on Sunday night my heater ran out of gas in the middle of the night. making it impossible to turn on in the morning. no heater also meant that it was impossible to get up in the morning (i.e. even to fill the heater up!). sub-zero temperatures, it was awesome. my only fear is pneumonia or hypothermia. i think i might finally read Into Thin Air. ok. goodnight.
